Amidst the ongoing global COVID19 pandemic, Greta Thunberg, the 17 year old Swedish climate and environmental activist has a message for one and all on World Earth Day 2020.
April 22 is celebrated as the Global Earth Day every year. The year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of this global environmental movement which started in 1970. As this year, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic most parts of the world remain under lockdown, Climate Campaigner Greta Thunberg took to twitter to communicate her message.
Thunberg’s tweet reads “Applaud health care staff! But also give them higher wages, better working conditions and permanent sufficient resources. Bail out workers! And maybe save the “clapping-instead-of-funding” for the polluting companies? A real sarcastic slow clap for the ones destroying our world.”

Thunberg’s speech at United Nations Climate Action Summit on September 21, 2019, attracted worldwide attention. Speaking fearlessly before the most influential leaders and lawmakers from all over the world, the teenage climate activist said, “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing,” she said. “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”
Thunberg further added, “For more than 30 years, the science has been crystal clear. How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you’re doing enough, when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight… You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you.”
